IBM wins ten-year, 70 million euro IT infrastructure management contract
Caixanova has signed a ten-year, 70 million euro information technology services agreement with IBM. IBM will manage the savings bank's central IT infrastructure and provide business continuity and backup recovery services to protect Caixanova's business from possible data loss or system outages. In the event of an incident affecting Caixanova's central IT infrastructure, the bank's operations will be continued seamlessly from an alternative IBM site. www.ibm.com

Sungard Availability Services announces executive appointments
SunGard Availability Services has announced the promotion of three members of its executive team. Patrick Doherty becomes executive vice president of marketing; Mark Hughes has been promoted to executive vice president of operations; and Edward McKeever is now senior vice president and chief financial officer. www.availability.sungard.com

US Department of Homeland Security announces eight percent increase in fiscal year 2008 budget request
President Bush’s fiscal year 2008 budget request for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) represents $46.4 billion in funding, which is an increase of 8 percent over the FY 2007 level – excluding funds provided in emergency supplemental funding. Planning for major water and wastewater incidents in England and Wales: Generic Guidance
DEFRA has published a document which provides guidance for water companies (in England & Wales), central and regional Government and local responders, including Category 1 and 2 organisations in preparing plans to deal with major incidents linked to water and wastewater. The aim of the document is to provide a planning framework for a multi-agency response in the event of severe service disruptions resulting from major water and wastewater incidents.
