DHS announces $1.7 billion budget for local homeland security programs
The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has released fiscal year 2007 grant guidance and application kits for five grant programs that will total roughly $1.7 billion in funding for state and local counter-terrorism efforts. With the fiscal year 2007 funding, the department will have invested nearly $20 billion in local planning, organization, equipment, training, and exercises.

New chief operating officer for Phoenix IT Group
Phoenix IT Group plc, the parent of UK business continuity company, NDR, has announced the appointment of Jeremy Stafford as chief operating officer. He will take up his position and join the Phoenix Board no later than 1 July 2007. Stafford, aged 44, joins Phoenix from BT where he was latterly managing director, GovernmentBusiness, having previously been UK MD, BT Syntegra.

MI5 to send terror alerts by e-mail
The BBC has reported that the UK security service, MI5, is to launch a new information service where businesses will be able to signup for free email notification when the terrorism threat level changes or when there is other significant news.

Philippines terror threat warning
The Australian federal government is warning of credible reports that terrorists may be planning an attack on the Philippines island of Cebu , where regional leaders are meeting next week. Read the Sydney Morning Herald story
