IX Europe plc, one of Europe ’s largest and fastest growing independent datacentre outsourcers, has acquired its eleventh data centre, in Munich . The 11,600 m2 Munich data centre, the Group’s fourth in Germany , was built in 2000 for KPNQwest at a cost in excess of £17 million (€25 million) to provide approximately 4,600m2 of net data centre space. The datacentre asset has been acquired for a nominal amount together with a long lease for the property. IXEurope plans to invest approximately £1 million (€1.5 million) on refurbishing and upgrading the facility.
GeoCritical LLC, a maker of critical infrastructure and risk mapping for corporations, has announced a new business continuity service for the 2006 hurricane season. The service will supply subscribers twice daily forecast projections once the National Weather Service declares the formation of a hurricane. The application known as GeoRiskMap serves as an early warning indicator and allows clients to visualize their critical infrastructure in relation to the hurricane's projected path.
