BCI South Africa Forum gets off the ground
The inaugural meeting of the Business Continuity Institute’s South Africa Forum was held on 4th July 2006, hosted by ContinuitySA and attended by BCI technical director Lyndon Bird. There were 19 attendees in all. The Forum committee was decided upon and it was agreed that meetings will be held monthly to start with and then moving to quarterly meetings later. Planned strike by state electricity workers likely to result in widespread blackout in Nigeria
Control Risks has reported that a planned nationwide strike from 1st July by Workers from the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) could result in widespread power outages in Nigeria. Control Risks considers it increasingly likely that the strike threat will materialise and warns companies to ensure that adequate back-up support systems are in place.

UK Foreign Office issues Tunisia terror warning
The Foreign Office has published an updated advisory concerning travel to Tunisia. In it, the FO states that it has increased the level of its terrorism warning for the country, with the threat of terrorism occurring within Tunisia now being seen as high.

Drought impacts Tanzania's power supply
Tanzania could start power rationing power this month to cope with shortages resulting from a long drought. Falling water levels have cut in half the output of hydroelectric generators and two major generating stations run by state-owned Tanzania Electrical Supply Co. will stop running next week.
